This extra large 16" Vented Laptop Hoop Frame is specifically designed for the rug hooking. Most rug hookers will start out with a basic craft store hoop and will use it a few times until it breaks. This extra large hoop is thicker and stronger than any other hoop on the market today. The hoop is 2" in depth and has been mounted on 5 legs that elevate the rug off of your lap to a comfortable height. The "Vented" bottom lightens up the frame and allows heat to vent off of your lap while working on your rugs. A large 8" bolt has been installed for the extra thick rugs and a very easy to use. Tri-knob comes standard on all rug hooking frames. 6 magnets are pre-installed in the bottom allowing you to use it on any of our three unique lap bases. (Sit-On, Bean Bag and Floor Stand)
The 16" and 18" size may be large for many people and I would recommend the floor stand as the perfect base.
How to choose the best size hoop or frame... If you are trying to select the correct size hoop, try this tip:
"To select the correct hoop/frame, you should measure the distance from the inside of the elbow to the second joint of the first finger or to the tip of your middle finger. I have seen both of these measurements quoted . These lengths are the largest diameter quilting hoops/frames that can be used comfortably, without causing shoulder or back pain. You should pick a hoop that seems most comfortable for the current project. The most purchased size is a 16" frame/hoop and the 18" comes in as a close second place purchase. Many hookers will often purchase several sizes of hoops/frames, including a little 12" travel frame for on-the-go projects or smaller projects. Adding other options such as a tilting base or one that can rotate will only add to your hand quilting experience. Larger 16" or 18" frames work best when used on my Floor Stand. The issues with weight and size can be overcome by using this style of base.
Adding a finish to your purchase in my opinion is a smart move. By clear coating the item it will seal and protect the wood for years of use. Think of it as a small piece of prized furniture. Color choices are just for looks but add beauty to the item."

I didn't have room for a cheticamp frame and was having problems with hoops holding a partially hooked rug. I have a gripper frame that works ok, but I had problems with it pulling out my wool yarns and keeping the rug pulled tight. It was also a little heavy and awkward. This frame is beautifully made and works even better than I expected. It really holds the rug. Highly recommended.

I have tried them all - gripper teeth frames, hoops, flexible, floorstands, laps and tabletop. I have neck issues and the 16" hoop set up with the bean bag base is absolutely perfect. It gives you a large surface to hook, a place to rest your arms while you hook and you dont have to hunch over a floor frame which was bad for my neck. The flexibility of the bean bag base makes it very easy to use. Mr. Barnett was very knowledgeable and gave great advice about which set up to buy. He was also really nice about switching the hoop size when I initially ignored his good advice and bought what I thought would work (the 12" hoop). It was a pleasure to do business with him and the product is very substantial -- built to last. I have also ordered the smaller travel model rug hooking frame with the gripper teeth. Can't wait for that!
