This is a modified Original 14" frame. The bottom has been vented to lighten up the weight and allow any heat to "vent" off your lap. Four magnets are installed on the bottom allowing you to use this frame with any of our unique bases that tilt or rotate.
The Square Hoop Frame is the one to use when quilting borders and blocks inside the quilt top. You can secure three sides of your quilt equally, and have the edge of the border running through the center of the hoop, and quilt all the way to the edge. When the block fits inside the hoop, it allows you to quilt one block at a time without moving the hoop.
How to choose the best size hoop or frame... If you are trying to select the correct size hoop, try this tip:
"To select the correct quilting hoop/frame, a quilter should measure the distance from the inside of the elbow to the second joint of the first finger or to the tip of your middle finger. I have seen both of these measurements quoted . These lengths are the largest diameter quilting hoops/frames that can be used comfortably, without causing shoulder or back pain. Each quilter should pick a hoop that seems most comfortable for the current project. The most purchased size is a 14" frame/hoop and the 16" comes in as a close second place purchase. Many quilters will often purchase several sizes of hoops/frames, including a little 12" travel frame for on-the-go projects or smaller projects. Adding other options such as a tilting base or one that can rotate will only add to your hand quilting experience. Larger 16" or 18" frames work best when used on my Floor Stand. The issues with weight and size can be overcome by using this style of base.
Now should I go with a traditional round or a square hoop? Hmmm? Why use a square hoop vs. a round hoop? Well, to start, a square hoop has a little more surface area in those four corners. For example, a 14" square hoop has the same surface area as a 16" round hoop. This means you don't have to move the fabric in and out of a hoop as much. Next, the square hoop can be used when quilting borders and blocks. You can secure three sides of your quilt equally, and have the edge of the border running through the center of the hoop, and quilt all the way to the edge. When the block fits inside the hoop, it allows you to quilt one block at a time without moving the hoop as often.
Adding a finish to your purchase in my opinion is a smart move. By clear coating the item it will seal and protect the wood for years of use. Think of it as a small piece of prized furniture. Color choices are just for looks but add beauty to the item."

I just got my hoop. It is the BEST HOOP ever. Harry's workmanship is excellent. I am very satisfied with the order and recommend this product. I used it last night and I love the bean bag on my lap with the rotation of the hoop.. very comfortable quilting.

I really love my new 14" square hoop! The quality and workmanship is amazing. I ordered the cherry finish hoop and floor stand, and my only regret is that I didn't order it sooner!

I received my hoop several days ago. I haven't had a chance to use it much because I have been busy with the garden. However, I can tell it is going to help me with my quilting. I have some vision problems and I can get the hoop at the right angel for me to see my stitching. Talk about quality made!! It is everything I wanted. I plan on ordering another one for my smaller projects. It is worth every penny. Now that the garden is planted,
I can get back to my quilting. Thanks, Harry!! You're the best!!

I was thrilled to receive my hoop after patiently waiting for it to be crafted. I ordered the 14" square hoop, open base with bean bag base option, clear sealant (no stain). The turnaround time was roughly 8 weeks but definitely worth every day, as Harry's products are finely crafted using the best materials. You won't regret your purchase or the wait. I purchased mine in preparation for a formal hand quilting class coming up early in 2017, although I am self-taught at the moment. I needed a good quality frame with operational options, also. I purchased the bean bag base to give me more flexibility regarding hoop position for different quilting projects.
Additionally, Harry is kind and gracious in addition to being an excellent craftsman. I had quite a few questions regarding the hoop dimensions and thought I might need a custom size hoop due to my neck and shoulder issues. We emailed back and forth, and his replies were very timely. Turned out the dimensions were fine, but I so appreciated his offer to personalize the construction. My whole experience from start to finish reminded me of days past where workmanship, communication, and customer service were just a natural part of doing business. If you're considering ordering from Harry, please do...you will be glad you did!

Beautifully made and finished hoop with great design. This is absolutely an heirloom product and I'm thrilled to have one of my own. I like that the frame raises it to make stitching easier. I investigated these after finding it too taxing to hold up a simple hoop while working. I also bought the bean bag stand which has been really great. I can easily adjust to just the right angle. I love the ability to turn it as well.

The Barnett hoop exceeded my expectations! It is very well made and sanded as smooth as silk! It is light weight and really holds the quilt stable. It will be an heirloom to pass on to a granddaughter! thanks for making a quality American product!

It tilts, it turns, so comfortable to work on. The open bottom makes it easy to view tension and stitches.

This hoop is beautiful! The quality is outstanding, it is very solid, as well as sanded very well. The hoop feels completely smooth.
The stain looks gorgeous as well.
I ordered the floor stand several weeks after my initial order and can not wait to receive it. I am confident that I will have a set of hoop/stand that will be used for many, many years.
This is quality craftsmanship!

I am very excited about my Barnett Laptop Hoop. It is finely handcrafted and absolutley gorgeous. This hoop is exactly what I needed for my hand quilting. It is well worth waiting for a customized Barnett Laptop Hoop to be handmade for you.

I couldn’t be more pleased with the 14” vented square laptop hoop I recently received. I’m hand quilting my largest quilt to date and find this hoop wonderful for supporting the weight of my quilt and the frame is so precise that it holds the layered fabric perfectly. I can set the tension I like and it stays without slipping until I have to more to the next section.
I applaud the Barnett’s workmanship.
Good tools make a task easy but great tools make a task enjoyable!
